I had planned to go to Dunure Castle this particular night but miscalculated the time that it was going to take me. So when it became apparent that I was in danger of missing the sunset altogether I decided to cut my journey short, get out and start looking for somewhere that would make for a good composition.

I stumbled upon this wee outcrop of rocks which I didn’t know was there, which took in the entire Heads of Ayr cliff face. As I was sharing the immediate area with another photographer, I figured that it must be a good spot.

The sunset itself and the colour that it projected on the clouds and scenery was brief that night, the colour only really lasted the time in took for the sun to pass between the low hanging cloud and the horizon, after that it was all gone, a five minute lightshow.
